Atmos Energy Awards Literacy Scholarship to Honey Grove Library & Learning Center

Honey Grove, Texas — Atmos Energy recently awarded Honey Grove Library & Learning Center a $10,000 grant to support its early childhood literacy program. This donation to Honey Grove Library & Learning Center is one of hundreds made by Atmos Energy as part of a company-wide Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities campaign to invest in educational, literacy, energy assistance and food security in the 1,400 communities it serves. .

Beth Dattomo of Atmos Energy presents representatives of the Honey Grove Library & Learning Center with a $10,000 grant that will be used to sponsor the library’s 2021-2022 Library School program.


The Honey Grove Library was established by the Hall-Voyer Foundation in 1964. The library serves the town of Honey Grove as well as eastern Fannin County and western Lamar County. Grant partnerships between the library and organizations such as Atmos Energy allow the library to provide services to the community such as library school, summer reading programs, a new teen/tech room, after-school art classes and robotics classes.

One of the most successful programs at the Honey Grove Library is “Library School” for preschoolers. At the Library School, children and accompanying adults participate in a variety of activities designed to develop socialization and literacy skills in children and learning support skills in participating adults. . The Fueling safe & Thriving Communities grant from Atmos Energy will sponsor the Library School’s 2021-2022 term.

“We are proud to partner with Honey Grove Library & Learning Center to connect families, engage our students, and improve their reading skills,” said Beth Dattomo, public affairs manager at Atmos Energy. “This program goes beyond improving students’ reading skills and helps them learn stories, develop language skills, social-emotional learning and much more.”

Atmos Energy’s Fueling Safe & Thriving Communities program focuses on three main areas: students, community heroes, and our most vulnerable neighbors. Atmos Energy believes in making a difference in children’s lives by working with local educational entities to provide resources to help children read in grades up to grade three. The grant awarded to the Honey Grove Library and Learning Center will be used to develop and develop pre-reading and basic reading skills in children in the Honey Grove community.
