A&W opens new national learning center and prototype restaurant

LEXINGTON, Ky .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – As A&W celebrates its centennial, the company is gearing up for its next century with the opening this month of a new national learning center and prototype restaurant in Richmond, Ky.

A&W, which was acquired by its franchisees of YUM! Brands in 2011, hosted more than 70 locations in the United States under new management; a dozen others are in various stages of development.

Located less than half an hour from A&W Headquarters, the Richmond Restaurant is the first standalone “Gen19” prototype that takes a holistic approach to customer engagement. The trendy nostalgic design blends the fundamental characteristics of the A&W brand with contemporary elements, giving a familiar yet new feel. The color scheme combines the signature A&W orange with earthy grays. Retro neon signage, updated seating, and pop art murals complete the look. Behind the scenes, efficiency improvements improve productivity.

The facility is also the new home of A&W University, an educational resource center for new franchisees and team members across the country. It offers a classroom setting as well as hands-on experience in the adjoining restaurant, enabling participants to master A&W operational standards. Previously, training took place at the head office and at a restaurant in Lexington.

“From our Root Beer and freshly made charlottes to our food, A&W offers our customers a unique menu and experience, ”said Kevin Bazner, President and CEO. “This learning center is essential in helping our franchisees succeed as they introduce the A&W brand to a new generation of customers.

A&W was founded in Lodi, California in 1919. Today there are approximately 1,000 restaurants around the world.
