On September 6, Bellevue College celebrated the renovation of Bellevue’s Early Learning Center (ELC) playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The renovation was made possible through a decades-long partnership with Costco.

“At this stage, children are developing important physical, social and learning skills that form the foundation for success,” said Gary Locke, acting president of Bellevue College.

The renovation replaced playground equipment, improved landscaping, and improved drainage. The renovation also created separate play areas for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

“The enhanced playground provides new opportunities for exploration and creativity,” Locke said. “We deeply appreciate Costco’s commitment to early learning at ELC, which spans 20 years and has helped so many families live.”

Bellevue College ELC offers a daycare designed for children ages 3 months to 6 years. Registration priority is given to BC students, staff, and faculty, as well as Costco employees.

“As a company dedicated to supporting early childhood education through college, we are thrilled to be involved in this partnership with British Columbia,” said Sheri Flies, Vice President of the sustainability and compliance at Costco. “On a personal level, I have family members and children of co-workers who have participated in the ELC. I know the impact this can have on children, and it is profound.
