Teams fight large fire at KinderCare Learning Center in Brooklyn Park – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) â ???? Firefighters fought large flames early Thursday morning at a northern metro daycare.

The Brooklyn Park Fire Department said crews responded around 2 a.m. to a fire at the KinderCare Learning Center in the 7900 block of Xerxes Avenue North.

Firefighters arrived to find flames inside the building, which were quickly engulfed by the blaze. At one point, flames passed through three sides of the building, as well as the roof. The building appears to be a total loss.

A daycare less than a mile from the KinderCare facility opens to help families in need of child care.

“It’s our shared obligation to make this as easy as possible for parents affected by the fire,” said Brandon Young, executive director of Little Learning Academy.

Little Learning Academy in Brooklyn Park has few places available, but waives registration fees and temporarily allows walk-in care.

Governor Walz has temporarily ordered the closure of kindergarten to grade 12 schools, but allows daycares and kindergartens to remain open,

To be considered for Little Learning Academy, families must submit an application and provide immunization records.

A spokesperson for the city of Brooklyn Park said no one was injured in the blaze.
